Uber Stories
Please feel free to share your
experiences of "Uber" parenting or
just enjoy the antics of your baby
boomer friends and neighbors…
Mike From Cleveland, Ohio: My mother used to bug me so much about eating that I was forced to lie and create the illusion of having eaten so she would leave me alone. One time, I took a perfectly clean knife, stuck it into the peanut butter jar and put it in the sink so she'd think I ate a sandwich. She also did my laundry until I was 19.
Carol, NY: My friends always tell me that I am too over protective but I can't help it. I know my daughter feels smothered but I just can't stop myself from always wanting to know what she is doing.
Gabrielle, Brisbane, Aust.: It's a problem. I worked hard at standing back (yes, it is so hard!) from my kids so that they could learn from their mistakes and they grew up to be great responsible people. Now they are dealing with flakes because their peers' have been uber-parented and want everything to be about them ! The uber-parented cannot problem solve on their own. I felt I brought up my kids in the best way only to find them having to constantly deal with problem people who were uber parented. I believe uber-parenting is all about controlling kids and that's not preparing them to succeed in the world.
